This professional development opportunity is for staff and volunteers who want to further develop their skills to facilitate a range of groups including; support groups, volunteer groups and skills education groups
within the workplace or in community settings.

Topics covered;

  • Adult learning styles and how to cater for difference within a group
  • Creating session plans for your group
  • Setting safe boundaries which allow participants to gain the maximum
    benefit from the group
  • Setting group objectives
  • Group dynamics — how to deal with difficult situations and different
    personalities within the group. How to make the group positive for all
    participants
  • Dealing with conflict in groups
  • Review communication skills and how to apply to groups
  • Lunch, morning and afternoon tea includedSelect from the following dates:

A workshop for separated parents wanting to understand and manage the changes in their family. The workshop will enable you to:

  • Share with others what is different now that the family has changed
  • Learn about what your children need from you
  • Learn about communicating respectfully with the other parent
  • Identify what gets in the way of working together as parents
  • Develop strategies to deal with what gets in the way
  • Understand the developmental attachment needs of your children

PRE-DIABETES

A consumer forum with information, advice and support for consumers. Pre diabetes occurs when the blood glucose level is higher than normal, but not high enough for a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes. People with pre diabetes have a 1 in 3 chance of developing type 2 diabetes within 5-10 years, but this can be minimised through healthy eating and physical activity. NOARLUNGA BREAST CANCER SUPPORT GROUP

The Noarlunga Breast Cancer Support Group is a member of Breast Cancer Network of Australia and is supported by the Cancer Council of Australia

An informal group, held at Southern Women's, where women of all ages who have experienced breast cancer can come for positive, warm, friendly, emotional support and information.  

To share their concerns and joys with others who have been through similar experiences of breast cancer with encouragement to have a positive outlook on life.

YARROW PLACE TRAINING 

Yarrow Place, part of the Children, Youth and Women's Health Service, encourages and supports individuals from diverse backgrounds and abilities to participate in training, with four main roles:

  • providing direct services to those raped or sexually assaulted, were aged 16 years or more at the time of the assault
  • advocacy in relation to key issues, public policy, planning and service delivery in the area of sexual violence against adults
  • resourcing other agencies and workers to provide services to victims/survivors
  • working to prevent rape and sexual assault.

MEDICARE DIABETES GROUP HEALTHY LIFESTYLE SESSIONS

Type 2 diabetic patients are eligible to attend 8 group sessions per year (in addition to EPC program), plus an initial individual review. The healthy lifestyle group cover nutrition and exercise and will assist patients to become better informed. THE WOMEN EXPERIENCING LIFELONG LEARNING (WELL) GROUP

For mothers with infants under 12 months of age who are having difficulty adjusting to becoming a parent and are at risk of developing or are experiencing post natal depression or anxiety. The program requires that clients are linked to a GP and aims to complement the medical care provided.

The Tobacco and Mental Illness Project is running weekly information and support groups for smokers who have mental illness and want to quit or reduce their tobacco use. 

There are groups currently running at Noarlunga, Keswick, Unley, Stepney, Port Adelaide, Elizabeth and Modbury.  Email for further information.

CAESAREAN BIRTH AWARENESS AND INFORMATION

CARES-SA (Caesarean Awareness, Recovery, Education and Support) is a non-profit, community support group working to educate and inform women about caesarean birth, the safety of vaginal birth after a caesarean and providing support for women and families dealing with issues surrounding caesarean birth.

Informal coffee mornings are held at the Eastwood Community Centre, Eastwood every second Tuesday of the month from 9.30 am -11.30 am. Partners and children welcome. For information contact Deb Minge, Coordinator, on 0402 766 756.
