About

The Rural Workforce Support Program provides support to rural General Practitioners, their partners and practice staff working within the General Practice Network South (gpns) region.

How we can help

gpns aims to support recruiting and retaining rural General Practitioners, medical students, trainees and their families within the region by:

  • Coordinating an orientation program for all GPs, registrars and medical students new to the south coast area covering the available services and support in collaboration with Rural Doctors Workforce Agency
  • Supporting the families of local GPs through the Rural Medical Family Network
  • Promoting the Southern Fleurieu Peninsula as a desirable place to live and practice medicine
  • Maintaining an accurate profile of the local GP workforce
  • Providing GPs and Practice Nurses with access to evidence-based continuing professional development in areas/disciplines that meet the needs of rural general practice.
  • Providing opportunities for peer support and networking meetings with other regional health providers
  • Facilitating bi-monthly meetings for rural GPs, Practice Nurses and Practice Managers
  • Supporting GPs and practice staff with accreditation and practice management issues
  • Coordinating an annual practice staff training day
  • Promoting the Dr DOC program. The gpns contact is Dr David Batt, 8552 2611
  • Promoting the GPs for GPs program. The initial gpns contact is Deb Sparkes, 8552 7981.
