About

gpns provides accessible, quality mental health programs to support GPs in the treatment of mental health disorders in the primary health care setting. We provide services across the spectrum to meet the needs of clients with a range of mental health disorders. 

How We Can Help

Referral to all gpns mental health programs can be made by completing a Mental Health Treatment Plan Item 2710 and by faxing it to gpns on 1800 775 742. Please ensure all referrals are signed.

Southern Wellbeing Program 
  • The Southern Wellbeing program provides 6 sessions of treatment, with the opportunity for a further 6 upon review (Item 2712). Also includes 12 group sessions.
  • The Southern Wellbeing program targets specific population groups including low income earners, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, young people, homeless, culturally and linguistically diverse, and peri-natal women. Eligibility criteria can be found here.

Rural Primary Health Services (formerly MAHS)
  • Rural Primary Health Services are provided in the Southern Fleurieu and on Kangaroo Island. The program provides 6 sessions of treatment, with the opportunity for a further 6 upon review (Item 2712).
Mental Health Shared Care in General Practice
  • An on-going therapeutic program to focus on those people with low prevelance, high complexity disorders including schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders, bipolar, severe depression, anxiety and personality disorders.

Psychiatric Assessment or Advice

GP PASA

Private psychiatrists offer appointments for Item 291 one-off psychiatric assessments. To make an appointment, call GP PASA on 1800 721 899.

Southern Mental Health Booked Assessment Service

Non-urgent pathway into Southern Mental Health Service, including psychiatric review. For referral form, click here.

GP Psych Support

Provides GPs with telephone advice from psychiatrists regarding patient treatment. Phone GP Psych Support on 1800 200 588 and a psychiatrist will call you back within 24 hours. More information is available here.
